The Evolution of a King. When our leaders have the ability to communicate they can organize, if they can organize they can mobilize but it's not until they can do these things to effect real change do they become a threat. In the last 2 years of his life Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. began to sound more and more like Malcolm X and Marcus Garvey. He began to see that social integration wasn't the fight to fight and shifted his focus to economic empowerment for minorities. I believe this is what got him killed. He not only brought light to the economic conditions of black people but he began to wake up poor white people too. Those same people that have been stirred up by Donald Trump today were latching on to Dr. King's coat tale in search of economic justice. It was this shift in philosophy that made him a real threat. He'd already demonstrated the ability to organize and mobilize on a mass scale. He'd already gotten millions across America to literally put their lives on the line for a cause that he championed. This time, however the cause in question would bring about real justice and not just a superficial victory. This time the establishment didn't have a way to capitalize on the very cause that they fought to protect. Yes, whites in the south preferred to have their "Whites Only" establishments. However the community at large saw the real writing on the wall. Segregated black communities were become extremely economically viable and had begun to produce mass amounts of wealth which lead to independence and power. As a result integration was a battle win for Dr. King but it positioned the establishment to win the war. Dr. King began to understand this more and more as he evolved and it was this evolution that scared the establishment to a point where he had to be taken out, he had to be assassinated. Much like with the great Muhammad Ali millions have come to adore the image of the man that is presented to us when the man that he truly was has been abolished from history. So it is with Dr. King, no one talks about the man that he was becoming because of fear of the possibility of that inspiring the masses in only a way that he could. So on this King Day Celebration let's celebrate the Evolution of a King!
