We're kicking off 2018 with a study of the 12 principles of vision. Hopefully this 5 part series will help you accomplish all your dreams for 2018. As the Good Book says "Where there is no vision, the people perish!" They key though is understanding the principles of vision. So check out part 2 of the series and leave us a comment below. If you missed part 1 see it here.
As we continue to study Dr. Myles Munroe's "The Principles and Power of Vision" I get convicted more and more each day. As a self proclaimed visionary, I realize I don't know as many of the principles of vision as I thought. I'm so grateful that my Mom turned me on to the good doctor. As we enter into 2018 my goal is to 10x my production of 2017. Yes I accomplished a lot in 2017 but most of it was my flying by the seat of my pants. I can only imagine where I'll be at the end of 2018 as I make a concerted effort to be more organized, focused and structured with my planning and execution. This study is helping tremendously.
Principles 1-3 for Fulfilling Your Personal Vision
Principle #1: Be directed by a clear vision - We covered this principle extensively in part one of the series (see the replay here), so I won't go into much detail here. However, clarity is important and to be directed by a clear vision you must understand the origin of vision. According to Dr. Myles, vision comes from purpose and because God created everything for a purpose it's safe to say that vision comes from God. So, before you can be led by a clear vision, you must uncover your purpose.
To uncover your purpose, the first place to look is at your passions. The things that you're passionate about usually have a lot to do with your life's purpose. Try to get to the root of your passion and really engage with those things. I believe that when you're engaged with your passions long enough they'll lead to your purpose. Within your purpose you'll find your vision as well as your provision.
Principle #2: Know your potential for fulfilling your vision - Now that you know that your vision comes from God, you can now longer doubt your ability to fulfill it. Because in doubting your ability to fulfill it you're saying that God has given you an assignment that he has not equipped you to complete. That's NOT how God operates. Throughout history we see time and time again, God give an assignment to someone that seems to be under-qualified and yet the mission gets accomplished. If you think back, there probably moments in your own life where He's called you to do something and you had no clue how you'd pull it off but you got it done. The same is true with your vision. God has either already equipped you or He's going to reveal the resources to you as needed. Either way He will equip you to complete the mission.
A few things to consider regarding your potential:
Principle #3: Develop a Concrete Plan for Your Vision - According to Dr. Munroe, God gives us the vision but the planing is up to us.
Are you familiar with the phrase "can't steer a parked car?" Well, when you're given your vision you're still in park. Before God can order your steps you first have to put yourself in gear and that's where planing comes in. Without a proper plan you cannot track your progress and you can't measure what you don't track. Similar to a master build who refers to his blueprint often so to will you refer to your plan often to ensure you're on track.
Another critical element to the success of your vision is understanding, "Who You Are!" It's the age old question that must be answered in order to successfully fulfill your vision. In principle #2 above we discovered that you are perfect for your vision but you must identify exactly who you are. Take time to self reflect, think about what really makes you tic. Take inventory of your special gifts, talents and abilities, even if know one else thinks their special but you. Believe it or not understand who you are is the only way to understand and uncover "Why you are."
