For the last couple of months my Mom has been raving about this guy she's been listening to named Dr. My'es Munroe. She says that I remind her of him with some of the things I say and the way I operate. I had the full intention of looking this guy up but I never got around to it, but she listens faithfully and recommends his YouTube Videos all the time.
The other night we're riding back home after one of my son's basketball games. They had taken a tough loss to a really good team and my son didn't feel like he did a good enough job leading his time. In true mom like fashion my loving mother queued up a Dr. Munroe lecture on leadership. It was my first time hearing him speak and it was like a breath of fresh air. Initially I thought, she knows just what the boys needed to hear. But then I thought a little harder and realized, no, she knows just what I needed to hear. At 43 years old she's still nurturing me. The Christmas she bout the family one of Dr. Monroe's books "The Principles and Power of Vision." After hearing his message on leadership, I now know why my Mom is so passionate about his teaching and I'm quickly beginning to find myself infatuated with him myself. Just reading a couple lines from the book I new this had to become a public study for "Talking Money in the Morning LIVE!" so here we are with part 1 of the series. 12 Principles for Fulfilling Your Personal Vision - Inspired by Dr. Myles Munroe
The book which this study derives is so rich that I know this would not be a single episode. I initially thought I'd do a two part series and wrap it up, NOT! As we prepare for 2018 and work to set New Year's Resolutions, Goals and chart our path for success in the coming year, it only makes sense that we take a deep dive into the vision necessary for you to accomplish all that you're setting out to do. Not just in 2018 but you'll need to understand vision and use it's power for the rest of your life. With that being said, we only got through 1 principle today. I promise we'll get through all 12 in 5 episodes but I had to be sure to properly set the stage for what's to come.
Before we get into the first of the 12 principles let's firs define what vision is and talk about a few obstacles that will try to stand the way of your fulfilling your vision. Dr. Munroe gave a couple definitions that I like. The first being one that you probably know well. Vision: to see something come into view as if it's already there. I like this definition because describes precisely they way I feel when I visualize something. I see it so clear as if it has already been made manifest. The other definition that he gives for vision is this: It's a preferable future, a clear conception of something that's NOT reality, but can exist. What got me about this definition is "preferable future!" So many people get caught up in a future that they don't prefer or in other words, they spend a lot of time worrying. So in essence this definition of vision could be the opposite of worry. Instead of fretting over something negative the "might" happen I like to spend my time visualizing the future that I'd prefer to have. Although I know that it doesn't yet exist, knowing that it very well could exist is enough to not only get me going but keep me going. The Obstacles Keeping You from Harnessing the Power of Vision
In life there will always be challenges and obstacles to overcome. The sooner you accept this fact the soon you can get on with the act of overcoming them. To harness the power of vision there are the obstacle you'll have to look out for and overcome.
1. Lack of Understanding the Nature of Vision - According to Dr. Myles vision comes from purpose, everything in creation has a purpose. Since God created everything, it's safe to say that vision comes from GOD. The is critical to understand and I hope you get this. When you know the nature of vision, that it comes from God, you're less likely to reject the vision. For years I've rejected the vision of becoming a billionaire because I thought it was too grand. I rejected it so hard that I refused to even let the words come out of my mouth. However, without realizing it, my rejecting the vision was actual a lack of faith. If I believe in God, and know that the vision came from God as a way to help me fulfill my purpose to reject or question the visions is in essence rejecting or questioning whether God has the power to help me fulfill the vision. 2. Not Recognizing the Cost of Vision - There is a price to pay for everything in this life, even vision. One of the costs is ridicule. Visionaries are often ridiculed and scorned for their visions. They're mocked, laughed at and even called crazy. I guess if you look at it, we do see things that aren't there, things that no one else can see. By definition I guess we are a little crazy. Now that you know there is a cost to vision you can proceed with the expectation of being laughed at and called names. Isolation is another cost of vision, the phrase "it's lonely at the top" comes to mind. Visionaries are naturally placed in positions of leadership whether the like it or not. They're the only ones that can see the vision so the have to lead the charge in making that vision come to pass. As a result of being in leadership, visionaries wear a target on them, and are constantly attacked by those that detest change. Just a few of the costs of vision. 3. Not Knowing the Principles of Vision - In this series we will get to some of the principles of vision. But as with anything else there are laws that govern vision, some seen and others unseen, nevertheless you have to operated within these principles if you're going to harness the power of vision. Principle #1 and a Few Things You Can Expect When You Apply It.
Principle #1 - Be Directed By A Clear Vision - I heard it said "if you don't know what to do with yourself, someone else will tell!" Such a true statement and that's why it's imperative that you discover your life's purpose. Until you do and get on with the business of fulfilling your own purpose and walking out your own vision, you'll always be pulled into someone else's. When you uncover your purpose and decide to live it out, most of life's choices on the journey become considerably easier. Will you have some tough choices to make along the way sure, however most will not be that tough because you now have a barometer to measure them against. Simple ask yourself this questions "does this align with my purpose or not?" See how simple things can be when you're walking in your purpose?
Well, how can I discover my purpose? When it comes to discovering your purpose I thing it's as simple as turning to your passions. What moves you or should I say what's at the core of the things that move you? I thought I liked coaching youth sports but what's at the core of me coaching is what I'm really passionate about and that's exaltation! I love to lift others up especially young people. I love to help other people discover the greatness within themselves in order to bring it out and share with the world in confidence. The problem though, I didn't know how to make money from that passion. As a result I couldn't pour myself in it fully because I had to make time for working and making a live. I believe that our passion come from God for the sole purpose of leading us to our life's purpose. But, because people struggle to make money doing the things they're passionate about, the walk away from them and by default walk away from the very thing that could lead them to their purpose. We have to find away to get more people to uncover their purpose because like a domino effect, sometimes your purpose is tied to someone else's and if neither of you are operating in your passion your paths may never cross. Just a theory I've been working on. Anyway, what can you expect from uncovering your purpose and making your vision crystal clear?
Now that we've set the stage I think the rest of the series will be phenomenal. Be sure to bookmark this page, and subscribe to the Youtube.com/financialhealthmentor and stay tuned as we continue to dive into the "12 Principles for Fulfilling Your Personal Vision." |
